CORE THEMES

Throughout the workshop exercises, everyone shares their own response with the group (verbally). The result is a series of verbal anecdotes and requests that provide a deeper layer of information to the architects, the project team and us as hosts. The following themes are a summary of the ‘patterns’ we saw emerging in the conversational elements over the workshop and site visit.

BASIC HUMAN NEEDS

Young people arrive in a crisis situation. The building and services should welcome them into a warm and homely space, flexible but structured, with all the elements of a healthy home environment.

BELONGING & COMMUNITY

Dynamics change regularly in the accommodation as new people come and go and move through their emotions. Create an environment that fosters positive interactions, support and connection.

CONNECTION TO NATURE

Hervey Bay is in the subtropics and has a perfect climate to live much of the year outdoors. Create experiences in the natural environment to support recovery, build new social skills and bring joy.

SELF EXPRESSION

Create spaces that naturally allow people to dwell, nest and fully express their individuality and interests. Provide experiences for the sporty, the arty, the studious, the playful, the thoughtful and more.
